Var med och sätt GaW på kartan! På detta hackaton* ses vi och berikar den historiska databasen Gender and Work med GIS-data. Kaffe, mikropizza och forskning – kan det bli bättre? På detta hackaton får du prova på att tillämpa digitala metoder på en historisk databas och samtidigt bidra till en ännu bättre forskningsresurs.

Gender and Work (GaW) är ett kombinerat forsknings- och digitaliseringsprojekt vid Historiska institutionen, Uppsala universitet. Projektets syfte är att öka kunskapen om mäns och kvinnors arbete i äldre tid.

Som en del i projektet har de samlat in och systematiserat tusentals fragmentariska uppgifter från olika historiska källor om vad människor gjort för sin försörjning. Uppgifterna har lagrats i en unik databas som gjorts tillgänglig för forskare, studenter och allmänhet.

Du kan dyka upp när som helst under evenemanget och stanna så länge du vill. Om du planerar att komma, anmäl dig via kalendariet på ub.uu.se (så att vi kan beräkna hur mycket pizza och dryck vi ska beställa).

* hackaton är en sammanslagning av hacker och maraton och är ett evenemang där flera hackers (det vill säga du och jag!) samlas för att utveckla och förbättra en digital resurs.

On this hackathon you'll have the opportunity to work with digital methods to enrich an historical database – increase your data literacy while you help improve the material's potential for research!

Gender and Work (GaW) is a combined research and digitisation project at the Department of History at Uppsala University. The aim of the project is to increase knowledge about the work of both men and women in the past.

As part of the project we have gathered and classified thousands of fragments of information from a variety of historical sources that describe the ways people sustained and provided for themselves. This information has been stored in a unique database that has been made accessible for researchers, students, and the general public.

You are welcome to drop in at any time during the event. If you are planning to attend, please sign up through the calendar at ub.uu.se (so that we can estimate how much pizza and drinks to order).

N.b. Bring your own laptop!

* hackathon is a portmanteau of 'hacker' and 'marathon' and is an event where hackers (such as you and I!) gather to develop and improve a digital resource.
